Captain's Log — Issue 008

I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

Eight issues in and I still get a little surprised when I see the number of people that read these. It isn't because the numbers are huge because they're not. But because I know the people opening these aren't casual.

You're someone who feels the gap between who you are and who you could be. And instead of scrolling past it you're actually doing something about it. Even if that something is just opening an email on a Wednesday morning.

That's Coby energy.

If you have watched One Piece you know Coby started as the most forgettable person in the story. He started with no power and had no plan. He was just someone who felt the gap and kept showing up anyway. The reason he matters more throughout the story isn't the rank he reaches. It's that he never stopped being the person who showed up.

That's who reads these emails.

Eight weeks. You're still here. That counts.

Anime Mindset Captain's Log — Issue 013 Nobody feels ready before doing the thing that matters. Luffy walked into Marineford knowing he couldn't win. He showed up to save his brother. He knew he was outmatched and outgunned but went anyway. Everyone else in that war was calculating. Luffy was already through the door. Most people move like this. Intention. Then evaluation. Then preparation. Then waiting to feel ready. Then maybe action. That sequence is where most things go to die. Luffy...

Anime Mindset Captain's Log — Issue 012 This isn't a motivation problem. You know what needs to happen. You've known for a while. The next step is obvious. And you still haven't done anything. The brain treats an unstarted task differently from an impossible one. An impossible task gets filed away. An unstarted task sits in active memory — taking up space, generating low-grade stress, making everything else feel heavier than it is. The longer it sits unstarted the more weight it accumulates....
